In case you were wondering, “party rape” is different to other types of rape. I’m not quite sure how but, there you go.

  1. I think ‘party rape’ means everyone had fun, so he didn’t really do anything wrong. (/sarcasm)

Any thoughts on the special treatment of the allegations against Assange?

    http://blogs.crikey.com.au/culture-mulcher/2010/12/08/our-julian-restoring-our-distrust-in-institutions/

“As for the Swedish ’sex-by-surprise’, the most sensible reading comes from the mouth of babes, Assange’s son Daniel, as reported in Crikey: “I haven’t seen any evidence that there was any actual non-consensual sex involved at any point, so it looks to me that it’s just some sort of cultural misunderstanding or general social failure on the part of my father or the women that’s led to the situation.” Shades of Helen Garner’s The First Stone. ”

    And from the Age:

“speaking in court for the Swedish authorities, Gemma Lindfield said Mr Assange was wanted in connection with four allegations of sex crimes.

She said the first complainant, a Miss A, alleged she was victim of “unlawful coercion” on the night of August 14 in Stockholm and that Mr Assange had used the weight of his body to hold her down in a sexual manner.

The second allegation is that Mr Assange “sexually molested” Miss A by having sex with her without a condom when it was her “express wish” he should use one. Miss A alleges in a third claim that Mr Assange “deliberately molested” her on August 18 “in a way designed to violate her sexual integrity”.

The fourth charge is that Assange had sex with a second woman, Miss W, on August 17 without a condom while she was asleep at her Stockholm home.”

And Crikey wonder why they don’t have female readers…

[...] Ms. 45 wonders that “Crikey wonder[s] why they don’t have female readers.” The ubiquitous Mel Campbell is “pretty disappointed” I should think the most sensible comment comes from Assange’s son Daniel: “I haven’t seen any evidence that there was any actual non-consensual sex involved at any point, so it looks to me that it’s just some sort of cultural misunderstanding or general social failure on the part of my father or the women that’s led to the situation.” The picky word here is “evidence” — there are claims and counter-claims. Fridman’s a filthy pig and treats women like dirt. This won’t be the first nor the last for people of his ilk. Wealth (real or illusory) doesn’t entitle you to ownership or abuse of other people’s bodies. Rich, filthy swine – go back to the sty where you all belong…

‘Party Rape’ in Paul’s language – If you come to the party, I have the right to rape you

And to Yan – millionaires are an easy target because so many of them are arrogant pricks who think they own everything…

Party rape is different because if you’re a young woman who has accepted a line of coke from the boss during work drinks it’s still a party when he forces himself on you. Still a party at the police station. Still a party getting checked by the nurses. Still a party when you lose your job and income. Still a party when you go through the committal hearing. Still a party when you go through the trial process. Still a party when he is acquitted… presumably acquitted because society and jury members know that ‘party rape is different.’
