Rally to Stop Pacific Brands Job Losses

Posted by caitlinate on March 5, 2009

Chesty Bond GraphicPacific Brands are a ‘brand manager’ group based in Melbourne, Australia. They are responsible for some of the most recognisable brands in Australia – including a number that promote and define themselves as ‘Aussie Brands’. Berlei, Bonds, Antz Pantz, Hestia, Jockey, Rio, Playtex, Razzamatazz, Voodoo, Clarks, Mossimo, Mooks, Stussy, Lee, Everlast, Wrangler, Malvern Star, Stubbies, Dowd, Pierre Fontaine, Dunlop Sport, Hard Yakka, Slazenger, Grosby, Holeproof, Hush Puppies, King Gee, Sheridan, Sleepmaker, Tontine and heaps more.

The group have recently made the decision to move their Australian production offshore, despite the fact that they are making a profit from their Australian manufacturing. The decision to move production is unnecessary and destructive and will result in thousands of job losses. The majority of people who stand to lose their jobs are migrant women who have worked for Pacific Brands for decades.

However! The Pacific Brand workers are protesting to save their jobs. They would really appreciate the solidarity if you could show up, even just for a little while. The details of the rallies being held around the country are below and if you can’t make it to a rally you can show your support via their website

  1. The rally at Bourke Street looked impressive by all accounts. I hope they hold more, like on a weekend when other workers can come.

  2. gosh, i hadn’t realised they were responsible for all of those brands.
